Yangdong Folk Village
Yangdong Folk Village (경주 양동 민속 마을), Wolseong is a traditional village located between the cities of Gyeongju and Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province. Located 16 km north of Gyeongju, Yangdong Village located in the District Gangdong District Wolseong.
The village is located between the confluence of the River Hyeongsan and Allak flowing into the East Sea. Can be reached by train and motorway. Surrounded by hills and mountains. Seolchang mountain in the Northeast (95 m), Mount Seongju (109 m) in the southeast.
Is the main village of Son and Yi clans. In addition to the past, many influential clan centered in this area such as clan Yu, Oh, and Jang.
Yangdong village still retains the traditional life where traditional style houses (hanok) still stood. Some of them are private homes, villas and pavilion are preserved as national treasures, important objects, the provincial cultural assets and national monuments. Historic traditional buildings here is the 2nd highest in Korea after the Hahoe Folk Village, Andong.
A total of 15 traditional houses have aged more than 500 years and shows the architectural characteristics Gyeongsang society. Residents Yangdong still maintain the traditional life based on the norms of Confucianism.
